Safety is a feature, not a footnote
Talking to strangers online should feel like a good risk, not a reckless one. So instead of a policy page nobody reads, this is a plain-language tour of how Justalk keeps conversations comfortable: what the platform does for you, what you control in every call, what is never OK here, and exactly what happens when you tap report.
The short version: you are anonymous by default, every control sits one tap away, and human moderators — backed by automated checks — watch the platform around the clock. The longer version is below, and it is worth two minutes. When you are done, the chat with strangers guide shows what a good conversation looks like from the inside.
What Justalk does for you
Anonymous by default
No name, no email, no location required to talk. Because there is no profile, there is no history to manage — what happens in a chat stays in the chat.
One-tap exit, always
Every call carries a skip button that ends the conversation instantly and kindly. No explanations, no pop-ups, no guilt. The door is never locked.
Block & report in reach
Block and report sit next to skip on every call — never buried in a menu. Blocking is silent and immediate; reporting goes straight to human review.
24/7 human moderation
Real moderators, backed by automated checks, watch the platform around the clock. Accounts that pressure, harass or mislead are removed quickly.
What happens when you tap report
The call ends on your terms
You can report mid-call or after skipping — either way you are never made to stay in a conversation to flag it. Your exit comes first.
A human looks at it
Reports land with the moderation team, not a queue nobody reads. Reviewers check the report against platform rules and recent behaviour.
Action follows quickly
Warnings, restrictions and removals all happen here — accounts that pressure, harass or mislead do not get long careers on Justalk.
The community gets quieter
Every report tunes the platform a little. Reporting something off is not overreacting; it is how the good vibes stay guarded.
Your half of the deal — six habits worth keeping
- Keep your address, workplace, school and daily routine out of the conversation — general areas are plenty.
- Keep social handles and phone numbers to yourself until a stranger has earned them — which usually takes longer than one call.
- Never send money, gift cards or "emergency" help to someone you have just met. Genuine people never ask.
- Check your background before the camera goes on — mail, documents and street views say more than you think.
- Trust the off feeling. You do not need proof to skip — skip first, report second, and let moderation take it from there.
- End chats warmly and on time, and treat every stranger the way you would want the next one treated.
“A door that is easy to walk out of is the only kind people relax inside of.”
— why every Justalk call has a one-tap exit
What is never OK here
Justalk is a friendly, non-adult place to talk, and the rules match the vibe. Harassment, hate, threats and pressure of any kind are out. So are scams, begging, and steering strangers toward money or off-platform "deals". Sexual content and behaviour have no place here — this is a conversation platform, and there are plenty of other corners of the internet for everything else.
You must be 18 or older to use Justalk. Anyone who appears underage, or who makes a conversation uncomfortable for someone younger-sounding, gets reported and removed. If you are ever unsure whether something crosses a line, that uncertainty is reason enough to skip and report — the moderators would always rather see a borderline report than miss a real problem.
The legal versions of all this live in the terms of service and privacy policy. This page is the human one.
A note on feeling safe versus being safe
The best safety feature is the one you never think about. Most people on Justalk will never tap report, never see a moderator, and never meet anyone who tests the rules — and that is the system working, not sleeping. Guardrails are at their best when the road feels open.
So bring the curiosity and leave the armour at home. Start on text if you like, climb to voice and video at your own pace (the free cam chat guide covers that ladder), skip early and kindly, and let the platform carry the worrying. That is the whole arrangement: you handle the talking, we handle the guarding.
And if you are new here and wondering what kind of place this is before you dive in — fair question. The story behind Justalk is a two-minute read that answers it better than any badge could.
